Synopsis: The most ancient
and sacred traditions of the Dogon tribe in West Africa maintain
that the existence of civilisation on earth is a resullt of contact
with inhabitants of a planet in the system of the star Sirius. Central
to their cosmology is a body of knowledge concerning the system
of the star Sirius that is astounding in its accuracy of detail,
including specific information only recently accessible to modern
science, notably the prediction of a third star which was only confirmed
in 1995. The result of over thirty years of meticulously of documented
research, 'The Sirius Mystery' presents a radical reappraisal of
the beginnings of civilisation and of early ancient history.

Our Review:
In many ways Robert Temples'
'The Sirius Mystery' is where the whole modern fascination with the culltural
and esoteric meaning of Sirius began. Originally published in 1976 it
was updated with some new additional material in 1998. Whilst the original
publication was ground-breaking enough; the revised edition opened up
several new questions of avenues of Sirian research which takes the subject
into the realm of secret societies and consipracy theories.
The 1970s spawned
many books on ancient mysteries - most of which were dire and inaccurate.
Many of the supporters of ET/ancient civilisations theory at the time
became best-sellers and houshold names. In nearly every case their research
was heavily biased and found to be based upon some inaccurate assumptions.
In amongst this mish-mash of nonsense
appearred 'The Sirius Mystery' - a book that took a quite different approach
to the subject and revealed to a worldwide audiance the remarkable Dogon
Tribe of Africa and their occult tradition based upon a veneration of
the star Sirius. The more that Robert Temple researched their beliefs
the more he found links that supported their ideas within such diverse
subjects as the ancient Greeks, Egyptians and other Mediteranean civilisations.
Very few mysteries stand the test of
time but this is perhaps one of the most enduring. Exactly how did the
Dogon tribe arive at their advanced knowledge of the star Sirius? Did
extra-terrestrials guide them in the development of their culture and
traditions? On their own these are intriguing questions but when you consider
that the whole of the Ancient Egyptian civilisation was also founded upon
an esoteric Sirian tradition you really have to begin to wonder whether
there is not something very deep and profound in the whole Sirian enigma.
Highly recommended.
